Joe's story is unique, as there is probably almost no one the has taken the same road to a professional basketball career as he has.

In high school he was always the smallest or one of the smallest guys and didnt grow from his  5' 9", 135 lbs frame until he was between his junior and senior year of high school at 17 years old.   When it came time to choose a university to go to he chose his school based on academics. He wasn't recruited by anyone to play basketball as he received no high school basketball honors - no first team all conference, no second team all conference, and no honorable mentioned.

His first year at college he didn't play basketball and lived this year as a typical college student. Then his second year he decided he want to try out for the team. After a lot of hard work and dedication the previous year the coach gave him a chance and it has worked out from there.

Throughout college he worked very hard both on the court and in the weight room. He worked himself into an 3-year First Team All-Conference Player, 2-year All-American, Player of the Year in the conference his senior year, one of ten players nominated for DIII Player of the Year his senior year, and recently to the WIAC Conference All Time Team

After college, a scout from the Green Bay Packers (NFL) came in and put him through a combine workout. From the workout he was invited to the Packers rookie weekend in the spring of 2007 (based on his athleticism even though he hadn't played football since his sophomore year in high school). Then during pre-season one of the tight-ends broke their ankle and after bringing in four guys to tryout for the spot they signed Joe. He was with the Packers for some of the preseason, played in 3 pre-season games, but was cut a month after he was signed.

After focusing on football, Joe decided to switch his focus to basketball and in January he went to Australia (SEABL) to start his first season overseas. He spent two seasons there and then went to Germany (BBL). After Germany he spent two season in Austria (Bundesliga) and then went to Japan (Bj League) where he has spent the last three seasons.
